Our Special Educational Needs and Disability governor is Mrs S Robertson.

Parents as Partners

Parents/carers views are invaluable when assessing children’s needs. At Askwith, we believe that parents should be involved at all stages of the assessment and review process.

Regular monitoring and progress meetings take place alongside less formal conversations.

Parents/carers are encouraged to contact the class teacher if they have any questions or concerns.

Information Report

The SEN information report covers our provision and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The information we include is set out in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 Schedule 1.

SEND – Local Offer

All North Yorkshire maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). They are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, whatever their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. The Local Authority publishes its Local Offer which provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place.

At Askwith Primary School it is our aim:

  • For all children to be included in and to have access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum
  • For all children to achieve the very best they are capable of
  • For all children to experience a wide range of learning leading to greater independence and decision making
  • For all children to be happy and to demonstrate personal development
  • For all children’s needs to be identified early and all learners to be well equipped to meet those needs

Quotes from parents

My child’s confidence grows day by day thanks to the teachers.

My child loves coming to school.

Everyone is always so patient and kind. They are always there to help.

The teachers have tried new ways to help her with her education and it has paid off.

If I ever need to talk to a teacher, they are always there to listen and help with a solution and support me in any of my decisions.

Quotes from children

My sound mat helps me to spell.

My cushion helps me.

My bead strings help me to count.

I make songs in my head to help me remember. I practise.
