What can you do to help your child prepare for Reception at Askwith Primary School?
Help your child to develop physically by moving for at least three hours a day.
Examples include:
- Walking up and down steps (one foot at a time)
- Climbing, running, jumping and playing
- Catching a large ball
- Doing simple puzzles and crafts
Help your child to maintain healthy routines by:
- Going to bed at around the same time each night and getting up in time to get ready for school
- Limiting screen time
- Eating a healthy diet and trying new foods
- Brushing their teeth twice a day
Help your child to build relationships and communicate effectively by:
- Practising sharing and taking turns
- Talking to them about how they are feeling and why
- Looking at story books together and speaking about what characters are feeling
- Encouraging them to set boundaries for themselves
Help your child to become more independent by:
- Putting on/taking off coat
- Using the toilet and washing their hands
- Getting dressed
- Using cutlery
- Spending time away from their usual caring adult
