Children from Reception to Year 6 are privileged to visit our dedicated outdoor learning site at least once every half term, providing regular opportunities to learn through exploration, practical experience and meaningful engagement with the natural world.
Outdoor learning is an integral part of life at Askwith Primary School and enables pupils to develop knowledge, skills and personal qualities beyond the classroom. Through environmental study, teamwork, practical problem-solving and managed risk-taking, children become resilient, independent and reflective learners. Making the most of our unique rural setting, pupils develop a deep appreciation of nature while strengthening their communication, collaboration and physical skills. Whether investigating habitats, constructing shelters, learning practical outdoor skills or solving real-world challenges, children are encouraged to be curious, creative and resourceful. Outdoor learning plays a significant role in promoting wellbeing, personal development and cultural capital, helping to nurture confident, environmentally aware learners who are well equipped for lifelong learning.
