EYFS and KS1 Creativity Exhibition

Leeds Art Gallery and Kirkstall Abbey

The EYFS and KS1 Creativity Exhibition was enjoyed by everyone! The artwork included Van Gogh-inspired 'Mulberry Trees' using texture with paint, self portraits, African and Japanese artwork (from Arts Week), Kandinsky-inspired primary and secondary colour paintings, landscape sketches using perspective and Platinum Jubilee artwork. The children also displayed their collaborative 'Think Big' piece that they produced at Leeds Art Gallery. Thank you to all of the parents who came along!

The children in Reception and KS1 had a wonderful day visiting Leeds Art Gallery and Kirkstall Abbey. They were inspired by the movement, shapes and colours in the artwork that was displayed in the gallery. The children produced a collaborate piece called 'Think Big'. To finish the day, we had a picnic at Kirkstall Abbey and had some time to play games in the park. 

Computing

Dancing

The children in Class 2 have been learning all about how to use Purple Mash. They have concentrated well and can safely log in, save, open and edit their own documents. They have also created their own personalised avatars!

Line dancing! Class 2 have learnt how to line dance. They can put together steps, counting carefully to ensure they stay in time with the music.

Class 2 enjoyed their first weekly music lesson with Mr Morgan. They are looking forward to exploring new musical skills throughout the term. 

Christmas party

Nativity performance

Class 2 had a wonderful time celebrating the last day of school before the Christmas holidays with a party. We played musical statues, pass the parcel and the children took part in a dance competition! 

The children in EYFS and KS1 performed the Nativity. They had a wonderful time dressing up and singing the songs. We recorded the performance for parents to see due to COVID-19 restrictions. 

RE - celebrations

Carol concert

The children have been learning about different religions and their special celebrations. 

Class 1 and Class 2 performed Christmas carols and nativity songs to their parents.

Decomposing numbers

History - toys

Class 2 have been working on decomposing numbers up to 100 in standard and non-standard ways. 

The children have been learning about toys from the past. We had the opportunity to explore a toy box full of toys from the past and to see how they are different from modern toys. 

STEM Superstars

Female engineers

The children in Class 2 had a fantastic time working with our visitor from STEM Superstars. They explored different states of matter and even had the opportunity to see what a Van Der Graaf generator can do! 

The children had a great time listening to some inspiring stories with female engineers from the civil engineering company, Mott MacDonald Bentley. We discussed why civil engineers are important in our everyday lives and how it could be a very fulfilling career. 

Odd socks day

Reading

The children enjoyed taking part in Odd Socks Day to mark Anti-Bullying Week. 

Reading is a very important part of our school day at Askwith Primary School. The children thoroughly enjoy taking part in daily reading as a group, daily 1:1 reading with an adult, guided reading and reading for pleasure. 

Police Community Support Officer 

The children enjoyed discussing how they can keep safe online with PCSO Phil. We learnt about the importance of personal information and why we should only share this information with trusted adults. 

National Poetry Day - Tony Peek

The children had a wonderful time celebrating National Poetry Day by working with Tony Peek to write their own poems. 

Show and Tell

Mini Medics

'Show and Tell' has started in class 2 and the children have enjoyed sharing special things that they have brought in from home. 

We had a visitor in school teaching the children how to perform first aid in an emergency and they are now all 'mini medics' Well done children!

Fitness

Staying mentally healthy

All children in class 2 take part in fitness sessions. This develops their teamwork and their whole body control when moving.

The children have been learning how to keep mentally healthy. To do this they have taken part in extra yoga at playtimes, used the 'quiet area' for peaceful reading and used the new chalkboards in the playground to draw pictures of how to keep mentally healthy.
