Keeping mentally healthy in school
Sharing Favourite Books Maypole Dancing School trips Meeting inspirational people Tree Planting Community involvement: Otley Carnival | Our children’s mental health is as important to their safety and wellbeing as their physical health. It can impact on all aspects of their life, including their educational attainment, relationships and physical wellbeing. As they grow and change, children are constantly reacting to what’s going on around them. Many of those reactions are positive – but sometimes things can feel confusing or upsetting, leading to a change in their behaviour. Therefore, during these unprecedented times, we are placing even greater importance on our children’s mental health and wellbeing. Reading, yoga and mindfulness
To help us to settle back in to the new school year, we have been thinking of lots of ways to keep mentally healthy. The photos above show some of the things we have done at school.
The children in Year 5 and Year 6 enjoyed the theme 'Nature' and created some artwork inspired by nature. They also enjoyed mindfulness sessions outdoors, taking notice of the weather and the shapes of the clouds. |
The children in Year 3 and Year 4 enjoyed lots of time outdoors, thinking about how Yoga helps their minds and bodies. The class also used the Worry Tree to help free their minds of anything that may have been bothering them. |
One member of Year 2 shared how he felt about reading with the rest of the class: "Reading feeds our mental health."
In Key Stage One the children enjoyed 'Reading for Pleasure' in the school field, enjoying their reading books in the fresh air. They spent time listening to the sounds of nature around them. |
There are 5 ways to wellbeing.
These are the key focus for our mental health awareness week.
It is important for our children to know the 5 steps that can be taken to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
Trying these things can help us all feel more positive in our own daily lives.
